Abstract:OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical efficacy of combined periodontal-orthodontic treatment in periodontosis. METHODS A total of 45 patients with mild and moderate periodontosis were selected and treated with combined periodontal-orthodontic treatment based on periodontal non-surgical treatment. The changes of probing depth (PD) of periodontal pocket, the length of dental crown and teeth root, as well as the density of alveolar bones in different areas were observed at different time points before and after treatment. RESULTS Compared treatment before, PD of periodontal pocket decreased evidently, and the length of dental crown increased markedly in patients treated with combined periodontal-orthodontic treatment based on periodontal non-surgical treatment, with more significant periodontal-orthodontic efficacy obtained (P＜0.05or P＜0.01), but there was not significant change in the length of teeth root before and after treatment (P＞0.05). Compared treatment before, the density of bone in alveolar ridge crest and apical region increased apparently in patients after periodontal non-surgical treatment (P＜0.05), but decreased notably after periodontal-orthodontic treatment (P＜0.05 or P＜0.01), which was significantly lower than that after periodontal non-surgical treatment (P＜0.01). CONCLUSION Combined periodontal-orthodontic treatment can effectively improve the periodontal conditions, increase the length of dental crown, and decrease the density of alveolar bones without influencing the length of teeth root of patients with periodontosis.
