Abstract:Objective To obtain the awareness and responsibility of indoor smoking ban in heath care institutions through their staffs，in Guangzhou, so provide evidence on the tobacco control policies and strategies for the government and the health administration departments. Methods According to the properties of medical institution,55 healthcare institutions were selected from 12 districts among Guangzhou 510403city by way of simple random sampling. And then subjects were chosen by using simple random sampling from the medical institution. Results 73.8% employees had received training related to the smoke-free knowledge and requirements which organized by their units. The awareness rate of smoking to kidney cancer was as low as 53.2%.14.0% staffs were unclear the regulation that there was indoor smoking ban of medical institution.10.3% staffs didn't know the outdoor smoking area in their units. 62.2% staffs would dissuade smokers from smoking in the hospital if they see someone was smoking. 71.1% hospital staffs would take the initiative to ask the patient whether he was smoking when they visited. 68.8% of the hospital staffs would tell the patient to give up smoking if they smoke. The smoking rate of male staffs in medical institution was 11.5%, And the rate who were over 50 years old was significantly higher than that of other age groups (18.2%). It showed that gender, educational background and tobacco control training were the factors which influenced the awareness of tobacco control among employees by multiple regression analysis. Conclusion We should strengthen the training of tobacco control among workers in medical institution, and improve the service system for smoking cessation.
