Abstract:OBJECTIVE To understand the health literacy level and its influencing factors of urban and rural residents of Dan⁃ dong, and to provide scientific data basis for carrying out health promotion and education, making health promotion and education re⁃ lated policy decisions, and taking relevant health promotion interventions. METHODS According to the requirements of the scheme, 911 urban and rural residents aged 15~69 from Dandong were selected to carry out the questionnaire survey. RESULTS The health literacy level of urban and rural residents of Dandong was 25.36%. The basic knowledge, concept, basic skills, healthy lifestyle and behavior of urban and rural residents were 40.18%, 28.98% and 23.82%, respectively. The distribution of health literacy in three di⁃ mensions showed that females were higher than males, and the light and middle-aged were higher than the elderly. The level of cul⁃ ture was positively correlated with the level of health literacy of residents. The six major types of health literacy level of residents were: safety and emergency treatment (60.59%), scientific health concept (55.43%), health information (44.57%), chronic diseases (35.02%), basic medical treatment (27.22%) and infectious diseases (20.20%). The characteristics of residents with different gender, age and education level were basically consistent. CONCLUSION It was suggested that health literacy intervention should be strength⁃ ened among the elderly and low educated residents to promote the formation of health behaviors.
