Abstract:Abstract: OBJECTIVE To report and analyze the first case of serogroup B meningococcal meningitis in Nantong. METHODS An epidemiological investigation was carried out on a laboratory-confirmed case of cerebrospinal meningitis reported by the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University in 2022. Blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples were collected for isolation and culture of Neisseria meningitidis, serum group PCR identification and drug sensitivity test. RESULTS The case was a 26-year-old female who reported that she had been vaccinated with the meningococcal vaccine in the past, and the vaccination record was unknown. There was no contact history of meningococcal meningitis cases, and there were no secondary cases occurred. Neisseria meningitidis was isolated and cultured from the blood sample, and was identified as Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B; the strain was sensitive to ampicillin, cefotaxime, chloramphenicol, minocycline, rifampicin, levofloxacin, and resistant to compound sulfamethoxazole. CONCLUSION The case is the first case of serogroup B meningococcal meningitis reported in Nantong, suggesting that the epidemic flora in Nantong may change, and serogroup B meningococcal meningitis has the risk of epidemic, and the pathogenic surveillance should be strengthened.
